本属は本種のみを含む。日本全国を含む世界に広く分布する。寄主植物はキク科の花。腹部第8背板の気門内側に微櫛歯を持つことでThrips genus-groupに含まれるが、腹部背板後縁に大きな鋸歯状突起を持つこと、前胸腹板に小さな刺毛を持つことで他属から識別できる。また、頭部が前胸背板よりも顕著に小さいことが特徴。メスは長翅型だが、オスは短翅型。

This genus is monotypic. This species is widely distributed in the world including all of Japan. It breeds on Asteraceae flowers. This genus is included in the Thrips genus-group by having the abdominal tergite VIII with paired ctenidia in mesad of each spiracle. However, it can be distinguished from other members by having the abdominal tergites with large teeth-like craspeda and prosternal basantra with some small setae. The female is macropterous but the male is micropterous.
