本属は本種のみを含む。日本全国を含む世界に広く分布する。寄主植物はキク科の花。腹部第8背板の気門内側に微櫛歯を持つことでThrips genus-groupに含まれるが、腹部背板後縁に大きな鋸歯状突起を持つこと、前胸腹板に小さな刺毛を持つことで他属から識別できる。また、頭部が前胸背板よりも顕著に小さいことが特徴。メスは長翅型だが、オスは短翅型。

This genus is monotypic. This species is widely distributed into the world including all of Japan. It breeds on Asteraceae flowers. This genus is included in Thrips genus-group by having abdominal tergite VIII with paired ctenidia in mesad of each spiracle. However, it can be distinguished from other members by having abdominal tergites with large teeth-like craspeda and prosternal basantara with some small setae. The female is macropterous but the male is macropterous.
